As the 2024 International Consumer Electronics Show (CES 2024) approaches, the Pearl TV Alliance, composed of American Broadcasting Corporation (ABC), has released new data showing that NextGen TV (i.e. ATSC 3.0) is expected to grow significantly by 22% in 2023, and announced that it will showcase new 3.0 features, devices, and insights into next-generation TV launches at the 2024 International Consumer Electronics Show (CES 2024).

Considering that patent disputes may reduce the number of televisions and consumer devices supporting NextGen TV, CES 2024 will be a key exhibition for the next generation of televisions.

The organization also announced that ATSC 3.0 broadcasting will begin in Chicago before the Super Bowl in early 2024.

The organization pointed out that since the launch of NextGen TV in 2020, broadcasting companies have driven a nearly 18% year-on-year increase in US home ratings. Driven by the launch in the top 20 markets, this number is expected to soar by 22% by 2023. With the launch and delivery of new features continuing, NextGen TV broadcasting is expected to reach 75% of the US audience by January 2024.

The cooperation, technical expertise, and visionary investments of broadcasting companies have enabled NextGen TV to enter 12 new markets in 2023 and provide 83 free channels to viewers. The top 20 media markets include New York, Philadelphia, Boston, San Francisco, Minneapolis, and Miami. NextGen TV has changed the landscape of broadcasting and television, providing viewers with a futuristic and innovative way to enjoy local news, sports, and entertainment.

Anne Schelle, Managing Director of Pearl TV, stated: "2023 is a crucial year for major markets to transition to NextGen TV, as these six cities provide viewers with important opportunities to enjoy the benefits of NextGen TV, while also enabling broadcasting innovation to flourish and preserving the role of local news and entertainment in American households. As 2024 approaches, everything is related to consumers and more interactive features, more retail accessory choices, and more broadcasting supported by the RUN3TV platform." Using programs, as well as more new markets and the second best. For consumers excited about joining the next generation of television, CES is the perfect place to showcase new things and upcoming products

The various features and advantages of NextGen TV will be showcased at the Advanced Television Systems Committee booth (# 19744) in the central hall. In addition to the independent upgraded accessory receiver, it will also showcase new integration options from consumer electronics manufacturers, including new platforms provided by Sony Semiconductor, Alticast, and Amlogic, the global leader in system chip platforms in the smart TV market.

The main demonstrations and technical highlights that Pearl TV will showcase at the exhibition are as follows:

Exciting wireless sports: Every game feels like sitting in the front row of your favorite sports team, watching the local TV broadcast of the game. Understanding the widespread popularity of sports live streaming, broadcasting companies across the country are expanding the scope of free wireless sports competitions.

More retail accessories: Although millions of NextGen TVs will be sold in the next year, consumers can now purchase NEXTGEN TV upgrade accessory receivers that carry both the NextGen TV logo and content security certification. There will be more options in 2024. Various cost-effective equipment makes upgrading existing televisions easy.

Better visuals, better sound: In addition to immersive audio demonstrations, the excellent image quality provided by HDR through NextGen TV will be emphasized as an ideal way to increase the color depth and brightness of broadcast images.

Broadcast Internet Protocol (IP): Another benefit of NEXTGEN TV viewers is that it provides more viewing options through IP connectivity, allowing broadcasters to add services that cannot be converted due to spectrum limitations and opening up more viewing options with innovative features similar to NEXTGEN TV.

Also exhibited at CES, James Xie, Senior Vice President of Enterprise Business Strategy at Amlogic, stated: "Amlogic has partnered with Sony and Alticast to provide high-performance reference design solutions to accelerate the time to market of ATSC 1.0/3.0 smart TVs. This solution is integrated with Sony's leading tuner/demodulator chips in the semiconductor market, as well as Alticast's ATSC 1.0/3.0 software stack, which has been validated through industry consistency testing. This collaboration ensures a seamless and high-performance foundation for the next generation of smart TVs."

In addition, Pearl reports that more large markets are launching 3.0 broadcasts.

Scheler pointed out that the Chicago market (one of the top three media markets in the United States) will be one of the first markets to launch NextGen TV in 2024. According to industry rankings, it will bring free services to around 3.6 million TV households and happen to catch up with the Super Bowl LVIII Especially in the field of sports, the development of linear live streaming television has been unprecedentedly strong. The uniqueness of 2023 lies in the rise of the "second best" in previously launched markets such as New York, Minneapolis, and Miami, which highlights the audience's demand for NextGen TV and has been welcomed by broadcasting companies. These 'second sticks' enable more television stations in these markets to offer NextGen TV services, and we will continue to see this in 2024, when San Antonio and other television stations will launch
